Out-of-State Online Students
If you live outside Nevada or plan to move while enrolled, the information below explains how Great Basin College (GBC) is authorized to offer online education, how professional licensure may be affected, and what to do if you have questions or concerns.
Authorization to Offer Online Programs
Colleges and universities must be authorized to offer online courses and programs to students who live outside their home state.
Great Basin College is authorized to deliver online classes and programs to students in all U.S. states.
GBC participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA), a national initiative that allows approved institutions to offer distance education across state lines while complying with state regulations.

Great Basin College is an approved institutional member of SARA

GBC may offer online courses to students located in all SARA member states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico

California is not a SARA member, but it does not require authorization for public higher education institutions like GBC

Keep Your Address Information Current
Your physical location matters for state authorization and licensure disclosures.
If you have recently moved or your address has changed, please update your information as soon as possible:

Log in through the MyGBC link on the GBC homepage, or

Submit a Student Information Change Form to the Admissions and Records Office
Professional Licensure Programs
If you are enrolled in — or considering — an online program that leads to professional licensure (such as healthcare or education programs), licensure requirements may vary by state.
Important things to know:

SARA does not provide reciprocity for professional licensing

Completing a program at GBC does not automatically guarantee licensure eligibility in another state

Each state sets its own licensing requirements
You are strongly encouraged to:

Review licensure requirements in the state where you plan to work

Federal and State Regulations
Distance education is regulated at both the federal and state levels.

Individual states may have additional requirements that apply to institutions and programs

Student Complaints (SARA Students)
Great Basin College is committed to providing high-quality online education. If you are a student living in a SARA member state and have concerns about your online educational experience, you may submit a complaint for review.
Examples of complaints that may be considered under SARA include:

Accuracy of tuition or fee information

Accreditation status

Whether a program meets licensure requirements

Course transfer information
The following are not covered under SARA:

Grade appeals

Student advising appeals
These appeals should be directed to the appropriate administrator at Great Basin College.
GBC Student Complaint Procedures
Details for various types of complaints are given in the GBC General Catalog.
Page 37: Discrimination or sexual harassment. Complaints are initiated through the academic department chair or director of an administrative unit. Alternately, any department chair, dean or director may serve as the recipient of a complaint.
Page 42: Instructor conduct or other non-grade injustice. Student Grievance Procedure: complaints are initiated through the vice president of academic affairs.
Page 47: Violation of rules of conduct by a student. Complaints are initiated through the college president or the student conduct officer.
Page 77: Grade appeals. Complaints are initiated through the instructor. If satisfactory resolution is not reached, additional steps are detailed on page 77 of the catalog.
Deceptive Trade Practices and Fraud
Deceptive trade practices and acts of fraud are strictly prohibited. This includes false or misleading representations related to:

Recruitment or marketing

Tuition, fees, or admissions information

Accreditation or approvals
-
Transferability of credits
-
Facilities, faculty qualifications, or institutional size

Testimonials or endorsements that mislead prospective students
Complaints related to deceptive trade practices are handled according to SARA Board Policy and must first be initiated at the institutional level.
